Overland Park health officials are investigating another possible norovirus outbreak.
As many as ten patients and eight staff members at the University of Kansas Hospital's Marillac Campus have reported symptoms of the virus. Those include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
So far, nobody has been confirmed with the virus at the medical facility for children for treatment of mental illness and behavioral problems.
It is the third such similar recent outbreak in the Kansas City area. Similar outbreaks have been reported at a dinner theater restaurant and at a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Wichita officials say the city suffered more than $100,000 in damage from two earthquakes in early January.
The city will pay for the repairs out of its operating budget because the city's earthquake insurance deductible is $250,000.
An earthquake incident report says about $60,000 of the cost came from repairing 10 water main breaks after the earthquakes. Other damages were to foundations or masonry of city buildings, including two recreation centers, police substations, the Mid-America All-Indian Center and the Alford Library.
The city also plans to improve its earthquake response plan in case earthquakes become more frequent.

Kansas health officials have confirmed the first flu cases in the state for the current flu season.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says the four cases were reported by a south central Kansas hospital.
Health department secretary Susan Mosier reminds Kansas residents it's not too late to get a flu vaccine. The vaccines are recommended for nearly everyone 6 months or older.
The department says this season's flu vaccine appears to be a good match to the circulating influenza viruses.

Salina Police are investigating a damage to property case in the 700 block of S. Front.
Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that Christopher LaBranche contacted police after discovering a couple of windows on his van had been shattered.
Police say someone broke the rear window and sliding door glass on his 1993 Nissan Quest sometime Thursday between 6am and 7pm.
Total damage is estimated at $500.

A 15-year-old boy was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot after he allegedly robbed a convenience store in Abilene.
According to Abilene Police, officers on Thursday responded to Casey's General Store at 201 S. Buckeye to the report of an armed robbery. A person entered the store with a handgun, and demanded cigarettes and cash.
A short time later police located the suspect walking in the area, and a short foot pursuit began. Police say that during the pursuit the suspect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg.

When a group of British ladies decide to pose nude in hopes that their calendar will raise money for a local hospital - the charitable venture catches on with plenty of laughs to share.
Director Michael Spicer joined in on the KSAL Morning News with a look at Calendar Girls, set to open Friday night at the Salina Community Theatre.

The latest list of Salina’s Most Wanted is online.
The first weekend of each month a new list of Salina’s Most Wanted is released. Those on the list this month are wanted for crimes that include sex crimes, child endangerment crimes, aggravated battery, burglary, theft, forgery, interference with a law enforcement officer, and felony drug crimes.
Since the Most Wanted program began back in July of 2000, thanks to tips from the public, over 2,200 criminals have been caught, and over 330 crime stoppers rewards have been given out.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Health officials say Kansas has not had any confirmed cases of the Zika virus.
The Zika virus, which is generally so mild that it only causes symptoms in about one out of five cases, raised concerns recently when doctors in Brazil started to notice a possible link between the virus - spread by a particular mosquito - and the birth defect microcephaly.
Symptoms of the virus include rash and fever.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Friday in a release that it recommends that pregnant women consider postponing travel to areas where Zika virus transmission is ongoing.

Two Kansas City, Kansas, men have been found guilty of attempted capital murder for shooting a Wyandotte County deputy multiple times while he was face down on a convenience store floor.

The student newspaper at the University of Kansas has filed a federal lawsuit accusing university administrators of approving funding cuts to the newspaper that were enacted after an editorial critical of the student senate.
The University Daily Kansan's leadership filed the lawsuit Friday, accusing university officials of approving funding cuts to the newspaper made by the student senate in violation of the newspaper's freedom of speech protections.

Kansas apparently won't join several other states that have passed recent laws aimed at making it more difficult for domestic abusers to have weapons.
Rep. Barbara Bollier, a Mission Hills Republican, last year proposed a bill that would create a gun restraining order that would allow courts and law enforcement to seize firearms from domestic abusers in specific situations. Bollier says she doesn't think the bill will be heard this session because of the state's strong pro-gun climate.

A suburban Kansas City hospital has reported 18 cases of a gastrointestinal illness, and at least one of the cases has been preliminarily identified as norovirus.
The University of Kansas Hospital's Marillac Campus this week reported 18 cases of a gastrointestinal illness, with 10 cases among patients and eight cases among staff. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Hospital spokesman Dennis McCulloch said in an email Saturday that tests preliminarily confirmed norovirus in at least one of the cases.

The chairman of the Kansas House education committee says his panel won't vote on a school consolidation measure.
Rep. Ron Highland, R-Wamego, told The Topeka Capital-Journal (http://bit.ly/1RdVXvS) Saturday he doesn't intend to move forward this year with a House measure introduced by Rep. John Bradford, a Lansing Republican. The measure would pare down the number of school districts to one per county in most counties.
The Kansas Association of School Boards estimated the number of districts would drop from 286 statewide to 132.

GALENA, Kan. (AP) - Cherokee County spent about $28,000 on a grand jury investigation that led to charges that were ultimately dismissed.
The county budgeted $50,000 for the investigation in 2015 after opponents of plans to build a landfill in Riverton petitioned for the investigation. Another $50,000 was set aside in the 2016 budget before the charges against the Galena officials were dismissed.

Dogs at the Salina Animal Shelter will soon be moving back into a refurbished and renovated new home.
Resurfacing and sealing of the floor, and replacement of the aged aluminum kennels is complete. Officials are waiting for caulk to totally dry, before moving the animals back into the new area. It is anticipated that they will be able to move in later this week.
The resurfaced, sealed floor will be more comfortable for the animals. It will be easier to clean, making it more sanitary.

A group of high school students will an opportunity to start their summer vacation by living the life of a Kansas State Trooper. The Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy in Salina will host the Cadet Law Enforcement Academy in early June.
