A Lindsborg man told Saline County Sheriff's Deputies that he flicked a lit cigarette out of the window of his 2014 Honda Civic while driving southbound on I-135 on Friday afternoon at about 2:30pm.
Moments later 71-year-old Michael Hartung pulled over on the side of the interstate when he realized his backseat was on fire.
The cigarette had landed back inside the car and quickly caught the upholstery ablaze.
Smoke and fire damage to the car's interior is estimated at over $1,000.
The Sheriff's Office says Hartung pulled the vehicle over near mile post #88, about half way between Schilling and Farrelly Road.
