Officials Friday morning celebrated what Salina Mayor Jon Blanchard described as "a beautiful entry into what will soon be a world-class downtown area." A ribbon was ceremoniously cut to signify the completion of the major portions of the Iron Avenue Project.
Portions of Iron Avenue, west of Ohio Street were closed to between May 26th, 2015 through March 4th of this year. The old pavement was removed, new pavement was built, and amenities were added. The improvements include:
A bicycle/pedestrian path north of Iron Avenue
Brick crosswalks
Black powder coated intersection lighting
Pedestrian lighting and traffic signals
A HAWK pedestrian signal
On-street bicycle lanes
